The basic story

It was November 1998. Several Whosers had taken a trip to LA to see the the last weekend of tapings for Drew's Line first complete season. Several Whosers, including Jules, Nessa, and Ashley, met up with Nattie and spent Thursday night at the Improv in LA, where the DCS cast was scheduled to perform. Drew happened to be ill that night, but a few other cast members were there, including Ryan (and special guests Colin and Brad). Denny was there as well, in the audience. After the show, the Whosers talked briefly to Colin, but he left early. However, they managed to talk for quite a long time to Ryan, Brad and Denny. They were even gracious enough to pose for a few pictures.

Ashley had been talking to Ryan after the show that night and eventually asked him for a picture. Being the kidder that he is, he wanted her to mess with Brad a bit. The plan was for Ashley to ask Brad: "Can I get a picture?" and then, when he went to pose, to hand him the camera so he could take a picture of her with Ryan! Of course, in Ashley's own words, "I messed it all up and Ryan had to come over and show me the proper way to make the gag work." When he was done, since she already had Ryan and Brad together (the lucky girl!), she went to take a picture of the two of them. Naturally, they chose that moment to pose that way. Smart. Very smart.

Around 2000, when Brad Sherwood's website was having a bit of an "altered picture" competition, this photo was altered to become a new version of the famous photo "The Kiss by Hotel de Ville" by Robert Doisneau. View it here. (popup window)
